I am just SLIGHTLY partial to this little one and his parents.
Meet Than, my nephew, who just turned one last month. Has it been a whole year since THIS session?? Its been so fun living near family this season of our lives…. especially for milestones like these, and generally living life together. I also can’t wait for Than and Nadia to play more together as they get older. They are about 3 months apart. Than is about twice her size, but she makes up for it in attitude…. already.
Welcome to life with girls….
But back to Than and his parents.
We met up in their Capitol Hill neighborhood and we just hit up some fun spots with some amazing light in the neighborhood. The weather couldn’t be better. I heart the mid atlantic.
and three of my faves!!

What a gorgeous time of year…. precisely why everyone wants to do their annual family pictures in the FALL! With peak color falling (ha!) around the second week of November, we were deeply buried in moving preparations and posting fall family sessions fell through the cracks! Here is a quick recap of some of my favorite images for fall 2011:
the Virgin Family – last year they were new neighbor/friends… this year they are some of our dearest neighbor/friends… our kids absolutely love each other. the family simply cannot take a bad picture if they tried. holy cow. we caught some amazing light at Brookside Gardens and had a lovely time together!!
and the Perieck family…. our original session, down on the beautiful DC tidal basin was a bust because it was soooooooo cold. Poor little Max couldn’t even dream of smiling. So we met up in my neighborhood and enjoyed some late season color AND Max’s beautiful smile.
and then there are the Knowltons… dear friends and neighbors who are especially cool to me because they have chickens. oh yeah, and not just any chickens, chickens with attitude and personality. and their son, Jeremiah, is one of our favorite little friends in the ‘hood. I took Adelaide with me on this shoot, as my assistant, and she sang and sang to Jeremiah to get those classic Jeremiah smiles and laughs! My cheeks were hurting after this session, from all the smiling and laughing I was doing behind the camera!
and finally, the Fortunato family…. I had the honor of meeting them and working with them this past summer, and we were able to squeeze in a Fall session before it was all said and done. Ollie is a DOLL…. his smile and big blue eyes are just to die for. I so enjoy working with clients through the year(s)… it gives me much joy to help document and see the growth and milestones of these kiddos!

it was a joy to meet up with the Potter family once again this fall! i so enjoyed capturing their fall pictures last year, and it was just fun to see how the kids have grown up. AND we will be neighbors in just a few short weeks! the light at Wheaton Regional Park was superb this evening. love it!
AND…. check out the new watermark on the images… just a wee taste of a new brand direction that my ultra talented sister-in-law, Elisabeth Kvernen, of Silk Road Studio has designed for me. i am very excited to launch the new design soon… but for now, just the watermark.
what do you think??!

Yes, it was like the hottest day of the year so far. Yes, we were all alternately sweating and cooling off. Yes, it was rough.
But, OMG, just look at the result?!
Baby L was just a doll. A stoic doll (ha ha!) but a doll nonetheless. She is just a couple of weeks younger than Nadia, and it was so fun to see so many similar traits that seem to be pretty standard at 8 months of age.
The light, the family, the smile and laughter and the beach…. wow. Obviously they all amounted to an equation of near perfection! It was such a pleasure to meet you all, Rossotti family and help document this special time in your lives!

Meet Ollie. There are just no words to adequately describe his cuteness. And I have to say, he was one of THE best 9 week old models I have ever seen. All smiles and looks of pure wonder and cuteness. His parents and grandparents weren’t too bad themselves!
Karla contacted me just a week ago saying a neighbor had recommended me as a potential photographer. (shout out to Stacy the neighbor!!!) And it turns out that we are all practically neighbors. I love this place. I love the connections I make around here… at the park, on a neighborhood email listserve, via neighbors. I love that so many of my clients live literally within a 2 mile radius of me right now.
Way to shop local, friends!
I love that Karla and Logan worked in some very sentimental and fun “props” to make the shoot even more memorable and personal. Not only are these images touching and nostalgic now, but in 10-15 years they will be simply priceless.
Without further adieu…..
