You might remember them as the “bike couple” from this facebook album…. Well, here they are again, for their “real” engagement session. Amy is my sister-in-law, and Allan, of course, my soon to be brother-in-law. So I get to brag on them and be a little more biased, right? But really, how happy are these guys? I was telling someone that as good of a photographer can get, they cannot create happy pictures that reflect happy people. They can take GOOD pictures, great backdrops, super compositions… but not “happy” pictures if there are no happy people in them. So happy people + good photographers = super happy pictures that make people smile. Even strangers. Allan and Amy are happy people… and loving, and kind, and fun, and amazing.

We ran out to the National Arboretum, and literally RAN all over the park (well, drove, parked and ran. then drove parked and ran some more) looking for blossoms of all kinds before it closed. Thanks to some gusty winds, it was literally raining blossoms that day! I am so thrilled for Amy and Allan’s upcoming wedding and their life together beyond that. God has some good stuff in store for these two.

I love my job. I love that I get to do what I love to do. But mostly, I love meeting amazing people that I would otherwise probably never meet.

People such as Kevin and Taryn. From the first emails back and forth with Kevin, to meeting at Panera over coffee… I knew these were “my kind of people.” And they so are. You know the kind…. the ones that take no effort whatsoever to talk, hang out, be with. The kind that you enjoy seeing and being with. The kind that make you smile when you think of them. Kevin and Taryn are totally these kind of people.

We decided to shoot their session at the National Arboretum to try to avoid the DC crowds and traffic. Which is funny, because the traffic we had to go through to GET to the arboretum was insane. But I think we all literally felt the stress levels lowering as we drove into the Arboretum. So relaxing and beautiful. Acres and acres of paths, trees, random structures and of course cherry blossoms. We arrived just before it closed, so we didn’t have a ton of time to meander around the place (and I hear we missed the cherry blossom grove), but the light was delicious, and Kevin and Taryn were just a joy to work with. I love working with people who actually ENJOY being together. I can stand back and just let them be “them” together… and those are some of the sweetest pictures and moments to capture (in my opinion).

First session of 2012…. and I can’t think of a better couple to be posting than Amy and Allan. Of course, I am slightly biased because Amy is my awesome sister-in-law. :) We are going to shoot their official engagement session later in the spring, but Amy and Allan wanted to do a “bike” theme for some of their upcoming wedding paraphenalia. Biking brought them together and they really got to know each other over many miles of riding, so it was/is a fitting theme.

January 1st here in the DC area was beautiful-then rainy- then cold- then sunny- beautiful again – then cloudy…. it was crazy. But the heavens opened up for us and we did get some sweet sunlight  here and there. So looking forward to both the engagement session and wedding coming up this year! Love you guys!!

I had the privilege of roaming around DC Sunday evening.. rain and all… with this lovely couple. And I do mean it was a privilege. Rose and Dave are two of the kindest (to one another as well as others- like me :) , most authentic, easy going, and oh-so-in-love couples I have ever met. Really. It is just a breath of fresh air to be around them. Not only do they love each other, but you walk away from them realizing how sweet and cool it is that they LIKE each other so much. Truly they are a match made in heaven. I am beyond thrilled not only to be able to capture their wedding next year, but also to get to know them as friends.

We met at Union Station and proceeded to jump around to some very amazing, significant places in the city.. both historically and personally (for them). I love it when a couple really puts some thought and effort into the location of their engagement shoot. And boy did they! We started at the Capitol grounds and then went to Potenza… a sweet little restaurant with some serious history. Dave and Rose went their for their first date. Dave also proposed to Rose there. The staff and management at Potenza were more than accommodating to us and even let us shoot some pics in the very booth that Dave proposed to Rose in.  I love love love it! These pictures will be all the more meaningful and emotive in the years to come. After Potenza, we made our way to Georgetown University and were able to grab a few shots at Rose’s alma mater before we lost the light.
