sugar and spice

Posted on February 13, 2010

definitely what my girls are made of… ones a little more sugary and the other a little spicier. :) i think from these pics you can tell who is who. these were taken as the girlies dresses up in their respective dress up clothes and proceeded to have a dance party in the living room area. i just love having girls and love seeing their very distinctive personalities emerging. and as the country song goes…  when they get the choice to sit it out or dance,

i hope they dance. always.

my precious girls….

Posted on October 30, 2009

I realize I don’t post personal stuff very much on this blog…. but I am feeling quite nostalgic tonight and wanted to post up some recent shots of my little treasures. and they are just that…. a treasure of treasures. I grow more in love with them every single day and every single day I don’t know how it is possible to love them any more than I do that day.

Addie is growing up at lightning speed. I know everyone says that, but it is so true! Her smile, hugs, tenderness melts me to this day. On “picture day” at her school, she picked out her whole outfit and even wanted me to braid her hair. She looked so stinking cute… I had to get my own pics of her.

and then there was dress up one afternoon…. Sydy is just now getting into it, much to Addie’s delight. These were taken with my point and shoot:

of tea parties and making memories…

Posted on September 9, 2009

a few weeks ago, my little girlies and i had a tea party. our first tea party. our first of many tea parties i hope. i dressed them up in some play dresses and pulled out the tiny china tea set we picked up at a garage sale. we stopped by the store and bought pink balloons and cupcakes and flowers. the girls dressed up at princesses.

img_4031

why?

why not?

actually, we did have the party in honor of someone else. Ava’s story is HERE. grab a tissue and read about her. its beautiful an heartbreaking. her momma, Sheye, is trying to turn the ashes and pain into beauty and joy by inviting people all over the world to have a princess tea party in honor of her little girl’s birthday.

so we honored Sheye and Ava… and we made our own sweet memories.

img_4041 img_4028

everyone in the store kept asking what the special occasion was, or whose’s birthday it was. my answer was “just because.” and i realized how a “just because” celebration quickly becomes a special occasion when its with those we love and cherish.

here’s to more tea parties and movie nights, and ice cream for dinner “just because”….

the Liveretts + Sedona = mmmm, mmmm good.

Posted on May 21, 2009

These are some of our dear family friends. We love them and miss them and covet their place in Pagosa Springs, CO. Its true. If you are looking to locate yourself to Paradise (i.e. Pagosa Springs), Chris is your man. He can hook you up in a big fat way there. We always seem to hook up on the tail end of vacations and such, and it was no different this time. We flew in from a long weekend in Arkansas (shooting and being in a wedding there…. post to come this week!) on Monday and Chris and Rach and the kids headed over our way for a day and a half. We decided, last minute, to do some Liverett family pics on Tuesday morning. The heat, bright sun and lack of creative options for picture locations at 9am presented us with a fun alternative - drive to Sedona to look for some shade and have some fun. And it was fun! After completely wearing the kids out, dunking one of mine in the river to rid her of her “chocolate” coating (i.e. completely covered in dirt from her older sister), getting homemade ice cream and then promptly having multiple break downs, we headed back to our respective homes - them to paradise, and us to hell Phoenix.

And here are just a “few” of my faves…. I know, I need to redefine the word few, don’t I.

And just because every shoot has “a story,” I have to leave you with this one:

My girls were with me on this shoot… Adelaide and Sierra are friends and of course wanted to play once these dang pictures were done. So my girls were “supposed” to be strapped in the double jogging stroller so I could shoot in “peace.” Well, Adelaide apparently got out and proceeded to cover and I mean COVER her little sister in dirt… you know the red DIRTY kind you find in Sedona. And apparently Sydney didn’t mind so much since there wasn’t any screaming involved. I didn’t even notice this until Cedar, the two year old, said something about Sydney being “chocolate.” And she did indeeded look chocolate covered. Thankfully we were right on a river and could dunk her in and clean her up a bit before the long drive home.

my mother’s day…

Posted on May 12, 2009

was fantastical. how could it not be with these little baby dolls smiling, laughing, picking out the BIGGEST balloon in the store and the hubby getting flowers for me (”not the cheap ones!”) I wanted to just have some good, old fashioned fun on Mother’s Day. and that we did. a $5 slip ‘n slide goes a long way in the fun department. i can’t help but smile when i look at these…. every time i look at these… they are moments i will cherish forever. come to think of it, maybe i need to print this one really, really big and put it right in front of me on the wall. so on those not so fantastical-and-fun-beyond-measure-so-much-so-that-you-start-thinking-your-kids-are-perfectly-wonderful-all-the-time days, but rather the-omg-who-are-these-little-terrors-who-call-themselves-my-kids-but-really-i-dont-think-i-know-them days, i will remember this one fantastical day. and i will smile, just remembering it. and perhaps i will stop pulling out my hair one strand at a time and go and turn on the hose and slip into some fun!

On a more personal note…

Posted on March 29, 2009

I usually blog about our family adventures and life in general over at my OTHER BLOG, but I thought I would include a little snapshot here as well.

Spring in Phoenix is really near perfect. And our family has been diligently taking advantage of it since we KNOW what is to come in less than a month (heat, heat, and more extreme heat).

We learned many valuable lessons while living in Europe from 2005-2007, one of which was to really get out and experience your city, state, country (and in Europe’s case, the countries around you!). And we did that there. And we are trying to do that here in Arizona as well.

A few of our recent outings have led us north of Carefree, AZ, north of Payson, AZ, and northeast of Apache Junction, AZ. All of them are easy day trips and we love, love, love driving somewhere new and just playing in this new (to us) and fascinating environment (everything from desert to tall pines and snow in March!).

Here are some snapshots of our family hard at play. :)

my favorite subjects

Posted on August 15, 2008

just so you can get even more of a feel of my style when it comes to kiddo and baby portraits (aka natural, free, fun, casual, fun, easy, fun :) … here are a few snapshots of my own lifetime portrait subjects. :)
Running around in the Texas morning sun and humidity (I couldn’t get enough of her curly hair…. here in Phoenix it is pretty straight):

And the youngest one… the ones of her in the white hat were taken outside… This is the same outfit I put my older daughter in when she was 5 months… if you want to see some comparison pictures, check out my personal blog HERE. (beware of lots and lots of the same pictures :)

Easter Girls

Posted on March 25, 2008

Ahhhhh, what fun it was to photograph my two girlie girls in their girlie Easter dresses this year! I call these my happy pictures…. just looking at them brightens my day. I need to print these off in very large prints or canvas prints and have them hung around my house. Whenever I am having a rough day, or the girls are driving me to my last nerve at the moment, I can look up and around and remember the JOY they bring on a daily basis, and the GIFT they truly are in our lives. Hope these make you smile too…

Pretty in pink….

Posted on February 12, 2008

This is my firstborn, Adelaide… I can hardly believe she is nearly 26 months old. Time does fly when you have kids, folks! I wanted to get in at least one more “just Addie” photo shoot before her baby sister decides to join us, because, well, we all know how many pics of that little girlie there will be in the near future. Adelaide isn’t a huge fan of the camera in her face, so I just followed her around letting her do her thing… whether it was making faces in a mirror, throwing rocks, watering the plants (again), running around… These are the real moments in her life. And she isn’t always smiling for them.. there are lots of serious looks, looks of concentration and frustration. And there are the looks of pure joy. All of these are raw emotions and I want to capture them all because they are real life.

Welcome to Adelaide’s world….

* if you want to see more, there are quite a few on my personal blog here.
