the Moroney’s || family and maternity photography in Phoenix

What an incredibly easy going, photogenic family! WOW! I had so much fun working with them yesterday morning  e a r l y. :) We met up at the Biltmore Fashion Square at the crack of dawn and totally beat the crowds. Nathan and Crystal were so easygoing and natural in front of the camera (as you can see). And little Nathan?? Wow…. talk about a natural. I could have photographed him all day long. And lucky for me, he never seemed to tire of my constant “peek-a-boo”  attempts to get him to look at me through the camera. My own daughters have completely tuned me out when it comes to that strategy .

We tried to hit up a variety of “looks” at the Biltmore, and it was totally a success. And Crystal totally made my day when she said YES! when I asked her if she would be up for lying down on the parking garage floor for a shot I have been wanting to do for a long time. :) Crystal, you are a rockstar! Thank you guys for being up for anything I suggested and for just being your natural selves in front of the camera… I just love these pictures of you guys - totally brings a smile to my face as I am processing them right now. Here are just a tiny handful of favories thus far:

this next shot is a great example of a perfect moment, but imperfect “photo”…. the image itself would technically be declared “out of focus” among other things… but to me it is one of my favorite images because it conveys so much more emotion and perfectly captures the MOMENT even more than an image clearer focus and exposure. this image, in my opinion, is a perfect example of when it is appropriate to break the photography “rules.”

Lacey & Mario ~ Married!! (Sedona Wedding Photography)

Posted on November 13, 2009

I just can’t say enough about this couple. I love it when I meet clients that become instant friends. And when I say instant, I mean instant. This past weekend, in Sedona, I felt like I was part of Lacey’s family during the whole intimate family wedding affair. It was so special and touching. We met up mid afternoon and I was able to set up some shots with Lacey’s dress and shoes and such while she was getting her hair done. Although we don’t have much of a fall in Arizona, there was definitely still some color left in the surrounding countryside. The view from the hotel balcony was truly surreal. The weather could not have been better.

We all stood in awe of how gorgeous Lacey looked in her dress. Perfection. After she got dressed, we headed over to the famous (and rightfully so) Tlaquepaque shopping area for some bridal pictures and eventually a “first look” session. Although we were all on pins and needles when the groom arrived just a wee bit late, all was forgiven and forgotten when we made it up the stairs to see the most breathtaking sunset. In fact, Lacey’s bed and breakfast owner told her the next day that the sunset that night was the most spectacular he had seen in 13 years. It was magical.

Lacey and Mario and 12 of their closest friends and family members gathered at the Tlaquepaque Chapel for the evening wedding ceremony. It was short, but full of significance and deep emotions. I was so thrilled to have been the one to document this special day. After the ceremony, we all headed over to the Heartline Cafe for a delightful and cozy reception dinner in an outdoor courtyard with its own fireplace. Invariably, we all ended up huddling around Lacey and Mario’s table as they were the ones closest to the fireplace. :) Again, I didn’t feel like a vendor or “just” the photographer…. I felt like part of the family. When everyone was giving toasts, I felt like piping up and telling the story (only a week or so old) of how after stopping by Lacey and Mario’s house for about 20 minutes with my two girls, my oldest daughter RAVED about how “nice that lady Lacey” was and how she wanted me to drop her off to hang out with Lacey next time, alone. :)

Mario and Lacey, I wish you the very best as you begin this new chapter of life together. I really am looking forward to hanging out more in the near future… movies, pizza, Jamaica water, and eventually pool time to come! I pray God’s blessings on you both as you expand your family!
